We are again starting with dense fog over the coast and near-coastal communities this morning: Downtown to Oceanside and Miramar to Mira Mesa. The dense fog could reach northern areas near the 15 including Poway and Escondido. Visibility over these areas will be down to ¼ mile or less this morning with gradual clearing beginning after 9 a.m.
Surfers are getting an early Christmas present. A large NW swell will bring six to thirteen-foot waves to San Diego's coast Tuesday morning, with some sets larger than that. A HIGH SURF ADVISORY is in effect until early Wednesday morning. Waves should peak early today, but surf will remain elevated all week. Rip current danger will be high. There is a risk of minor coastal flooding, but the risk is lower this week because the daily high tides are not as high. Be careful if you're heading into the water, or standing nearby to watch the waves.
Tuesday will also start out dry, but that could change by later in the day. A powerful storm to our north will send a cold front sweeping much of the state. this cold front will bring gusty winds, cooler weather, and a chance of light rain showers on Christmas Eve. Rainfall amounts should stay under 0.10" for areas west of the mountains. A WIND ADVISORY is in effect for San Diego's mountains and deserts until midnight Tuesday.
