San Diego Weather: High surf along the coast and a chance of rain on Christmas Eve

NBC 7's team of meteorologists provides the most accurate 10-day forecast in San Diego. Here's what you need to know about today's weather

A DENSE FOG ADVISORY is in effect through 9 a.m. for our coast and valleys. During the morning commute, visibility could reach ¼ mile or less. Once the fog starts to lift this afternoon, a mix of clouds and sun will linger at the coast and over the valleys.

A High Surf Advisory is in effect through Wednesday morning due to large breaking waves ranging from 6 to 10 feet and some reaching up to 13 feet. There will also be a high risk of strong rip currents, making it dangerous for both surfers and swimmers. The surf could cause minor flooding in low-lying areas along the beach, boardwalks, and parking lots.

Temperatures will warm up a bit on Monday with a weak ridge of high pressure. You’ll see a mix of sunshine and some high clouds. It will be a great day to get your shopping or errands done before Tuesday, when we could get some rain.

A powerful storm to our north will send a cold front sweeping much of the state. this cold front will bring gusty winds, cooler weather, and a chance of light rain showers on Christmas Eve.

Regarding rain totals, our chance is about a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch. The system should move through quickly, leaving us with dry weather for Christmas.

Dry weather will prevail towards the end of the Holiday week.
