San Diego weather: Mild Election Day, Santa Anas develop Wednesday

NBC 7's team of meteorologists provides the most accurate 10-day forecast in San Diego. Here's what you need to know about today's weather.

If you're heading the polls when they open at 7am, bring a jacket. It's going to be a chilly start to election day. Tuesday will be the break between two Santa Ana wind events this week.

Daytime highs will run slightly warmer on Tuesday, but still below normal.

Another round of Santa Ana winds arrives on Wednesday morning. The dry, offshore winds will build throughout the day and peak Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. San Diego's mountains and some inland valley locations could see gusts of close to 50mph. Relative humidity will get down below 15% in some places. And fuel moisture levels are critically low, despite a little rain last weekend. All of those factors will combine for severe fire danger. A FIRE WEATHER WARNING will be in effect for the mountains, and inland valleys through 1 pm Thursday.

Other than some cold overnights due to the dry air and lack of overnight cloud cover, the rest of the week will be fairly uneventful.

MONDAY

  • Coast: sunny - upper 60s to low 70s
  • Valleys: Sunny - mid to upper 70s
  • Mountains: Sunny - mid-60s
  • Desert: Sunny - highs around 80
