San Diego Weather: Limited sunshine but warmer away from the coast

NBC 7's team of meteorologists provides the most accurate 10-day forecast in San Diego. Here's what you need to know about today's weather

NBCUniversal Media, LLC A daily video forecast from NBC 7's First Alert weather team.

We are starting the day under mostly cloudy skies, storms to our north will continue to usher in westerly winds, and limited sunshine for the coast and inland.

The best chance clearing skies will be for the mountains and deserts. Temperatures will range 5 to 10 degrees warmer from yesterday's daytime highs.

The marine layer will become more shallow during the day but it will hover over the water returning mid to late afternoon. So, the best chance for sunshine today will be away from the water.

As the marine layer rolls back in tonight, it will bring patchy to dense fog from the coast to the valleys with areas of low visibility Sunday morning.

A Beach Hazard will be in effect until Sunday at 4 pm, due to elevated surf between 4 and 7 feet. Strong rip currents will make for dangerous swimming and surfing conditions.

Another storm for the pacific northwest will bring clouds, minor cooling and winds on late Sunday into Monday. No significant chances for rain, instead we will become drier and warmer for the new year with possible Santa Ana winds for Wednesday and Thursday.
