Although a new report shows crime continues to fall across the San Diego area, hate crimes are on the rise.

The suit was a hot topic at the most recent SANDAG board meeting where officials voted to hire Deloitte and A-to-Be to take over the job. Etan Tolling Technology, the company behind the failed toll collection system, will continue getting paid through the transition.

A lawsuit filed Friday accuses the San Diego Association of Governments of incorrectly charging tens of thousands of drivers in connection with the South Bay Expressway, a tolled stretch of State Route 125 in Southern San Diego County.

Several city and county leaders spoke against the transit plan ahead of SANDAG’s meeting.

The San Diego Association of Governments’ Board of Directors voted 15-4 Friday to remove a controversial Regional Road User Charge — sometimes referred to as a mileage tax — from SANDAG’s 2025 Regional Plan.

The expanded lanes stretch from state Route 78 in Oceanside to Palomar Airport Road in Carlsbad, according to Caltrans and the San Diego Association of Governments.

New southbound lanes open June 14 and new northbound lanes are expected to open during the last week of June.

Residents of the unincorporated areas of San Diego County say they want their voices heard by having the opportunity to be among SANDAG’s board.
