The city projects a budget shortfall of $258 million for the 2026 fiscal year. Money-saving actions effective tomorrow include: freezing all but most essential hiring, pausing non-essential spending, evaluating city office space leases and more. Mayor Todd Gloria said that SDPD will have to make cuts, but that public safety is still a top priority.
