The U.S. Coast Guard offloaded more than 14.5 tons of cocaine in San Diego Tuesday, which the agency said was seized in recent months from seafaring drug smugglers in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

Thousands of pounds of cocaine were headed for the U.S. by smugglers, NBC 7’s Nicole Gomez reports.

“The Coast Guard cannot accomplish our missions without the respect and trust of each member,” Rear Adm. Joseph Buzzella said in a statement accompanying the announcement.
