A mural that was a source of community pride was vandalized in February, but the Friar Faithful mobilized to make it come to life again. NBC 7’s Todd Strain explains why this project means so much to so many.

Spring is in the air and it's ushering in new hope for a strong San Diego Padres season. Fans can get a piece of Friars fanfare across the city.

Local artists Paul Jimenez and Signe Ditona from Ground Floor Murals have been decorating San Diego with Padres murals for years, creating tributes to our longest-running sports team.

Over the years, muralists have painted Joe Musgrove’s ear check, the San Diego-oose and even the old San Diego Chicken mascot stomping on the Phillies Phanatic mascot, amid their faceoff in the 2022 postseason. Although some have been painted over, the duo at Ground Floor Murals continue to re-create iconic moments of the San Diego Padres.

The pair isn't the only one using their creative talents to honor the Pads. After another homage at the corner of University and 30th in North Park was recently vandalized, artists Carly Ealey and Christopher Konecki are back at it.

The original artwork featured a panorama of the rallying cry of former Padre Jorge Alfaro, "LFGSD." After it was covered with Dodgers graffiti, fans raised $5,000 to replace it.

"No type of vandalism is going to knock down local pride for the San Diego Padres," Edgar Herrera, who raised money for the new mural, told NBC 7.

Just in time for Opening Day 2025, Ealey and Konecki painted a tribute to Fernando Tatis, Jr. a few blocks away.
