Padres starter Andrew Cashner did it with his arm and bat Saturday night in the Padres 3-2 victory over the Giants at Petco Park.
Cashner (5-7) pitched into the ninth inning and left allowing just two runs on four hits. He also was 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple (the first by a major league pitcher this season) and a swinging bunt.
It was the second straight excellent start for the big righty. Cashner was within three outs of his second straight two-hit shutout.
The Padres scored one run in the third and another two in the sixth. The Giants made it interesting, scoring twice in the ninth before Kevin Quackenbush secured the save.
The Padres go for a series sweep of the second place Giants Sunday afternoon at Petco Park. The Giants are three-and-a-half games behind the Dodgers in the NL West.
