The San Diego Padres are on a roll…when it comes to clinching series victories. The Friars defeated the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday night to seal their fifth consecutive series. The Padres won the last two games of the three game set and improved to 33-37 on the year. While they remain in the last spot in the National League West standings, Andy Green’s squad is just 5 1/2 games back from first place.
Padres infielder Freddy Galvis got the offense going in the first inning with a two-run RBI double to deep center field. Cory Spangenberg and Christian Villanueva made it home and gave the Friars an early 2-0 lead.
Manny Margot is getting his swing back. The outfielder tripled to deep right center field in the sixth inning and added another run for San Diego when Franmil Reyes scored. The Padres sealed their second win in a row against the Cardinals 4-2.
The Padres head to Atlanta on Thursday to start the series against the Braves. The first of four games is set for June 14 at 4:35 p.m. PST at SunTrust Park.
