As Royal Wedding fever reaches a boiling point, new information on the future princess is being released, like her family ties to U.S. President George Washington and TV host Ellen DeGeneres.
According to a CNN exclusive, the soon-to-be Princess has a diverse line of ancestors—including Madonna’s ex-husband Guy Ritchie. Kate’s also distant relatives with George Washington, U.S. General Patton, and the lyricist of “The Star-Spangled Banner” Francis Scott Key.
Ellen DeGeneres is Middleton’s 14th cousin.
Middleton’s non-celebrity (that is to say, “common”) ancestors include bankers, coal miners, laborers, and a great-grandfather imprisoned for debt.
"I think what's interesting is that the future royal family will have ancestry really in all British classes," Dr. Brenton Simons, CEO of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, told CNN.
And, perhaps a surprising bit of information—Middleton is related to her fiancée Prince William.
Though the line isn’t as pronounced as former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and wife Eleanor (the two were fifth cousins). Prince William and Kate are 14th cousins.
