Before you head to the beach, take a stroll through the park or hike in the forest this summer, be sure to apply sunscreen and protect yourself from the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

We know that when it comes to choosing a sunscreen the decision might be hard with the huge variety of products out there.

Here are five tips to help you choose the right sunscreen:

  1. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen with protection from ultraviolet rays A and B.
  2. Use SPF 30 or higher.
  3. Make sure your sunscreen is waterproof or water resistant.
  4. Apply sunscreen even if your makeup, moisturizer or other products have sunscreen in them.
  5. Having darker skin may make you less susceptible to sunburn, but you’re still at risk for skin cancer.
