Water Main Break Forces Road Closure in Unincorporated El Cajon

A main break in unincorporated El Cajon Wednesday night left hundreds without water service and forced a road closure that lasted into Thursday morning.

The eight-inch cement water main, which was installed in 1955, broke underneath the 200 block of E. Bradley Avenue just after 7:30 p.m., the Helix Water District (HWD) said.

The break left about 223 customers, mostly in apartment homes, without water service overnight, the HWD said.

Just before 5 a.m., water was restored to the hundreds of customers but repairs were still being made to the roadway above the water main break.

California Highway Patrol issued a hard closure for the area that was expected to last between 10 to 15 hours, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

The County Department of Public Works (DPW) said the road was closed between Mollison Avenue and Graves Avenue.

The road was expected to reopen by 9 a.m. Thursday.
