A student at Valhalla High School in El Cajon was arrested Friday after police found a loaded handgun that he allegedly ditched somewhere on campus.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, a student told a School Resource Officer (SRO) that they saw another student with the gun inside a classroom.
The student left the classroom shortly after and the SRO gave his description to deputies.
He was detained by deputies as he was walking away from the campus, but he didn't have a gun on him and told deputies he never did.
Deputies eventually found a handgun and loaded magazine on campus. According to the SDSO, the magazine had one bullet in it and was inserted backwards into the handgun.
The student was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall.
