While most 13 and 14-year olds, were busy opening presents under the tree, one group of San Diego teenagers were wrapping presents of a different kind.
Alec Johnson and Luke Trolinger spent Christmas morning making hundreds of egg and cheese burritos to help feed those who are less fortunate.
"We have somebody scoop the eggs, have somebody but on the cheese,” said Johnson. “And then folders, we put in a pan and then we put it right in the oven.”
The effort that started last November as a lesson in humility has turned into “Hunger for Help, Kids Taking Action.”
"The kids were putting together Christmas list and my wife and I looked at the list and we realized we needed to do something to really help the kids get a grasp of what they were asking for and what was really important,” said Michael Johnson, Alec’s father.
Now instead of a two month project, the teenagers and five other volunteers marked a milestone Christmas Day. Sunday was their 60th consecutive week of delivering the food to the homeless.
They’ve passed out more burritos than they can remember and in the process say they’ve learned the lesson to appreciate what they have.
