One person was killed Wednesday after a car crashed 30 feet off an embankment in Temecula and caught on fire, causing flames to spread to nearby brush.
California Highway Patrol officials said the driver veered off the road and plunged down an embankment near Deer Hollow Lane at around 10:20 a.m. The vehicle then caught fire and the blaze spread to surrounding vegetation.
Officials said firefighters were able to quickly extinguish both the car fire and small brush fire.
No other cars were involved in the crash but inside the charred vehicle, officials found one person dead.
A SigAlert was issued at Pala Road between Sycamore Lane and Deer Hollow Lane while officials worked to collect evidence and clear the scene.
The victim’s name was not immediately released.
