Suspicious Package at State Building Prompts Evacuations

The suspicious package was delivered to a judge in the building

The state building in downtown San Diego was evacuated Thursday afternoon after a suspicious package was discovered.

It turned out to be a box with a lady’s handbag inside, according to the bomb squad.

The Metro Arson Strike Team was called to 1350 Front St. around 4:30 p.m. after a clerk of a judge received a suspicious delivery. The bomb squad said the package was suspicious because it came from someone who wasn’t supposed to be sending packages.

The bomb squad examined the box, deemed it safe and cleared the scene by 6 p.m.

No one was injured.
