Two suspects tied to shooting spree, carjackings across San Diego County arrested: SDSO

The crimes took place one after another starting in Imperial Beach, and then in Valencia Park, North Park, Kearny Mesa, Cardiff and Encinitas, law enforcement says

Deputies and police officers in San Diego say multiple shootings and carjackings stretching from Imperial Beach to Encinitas may have been carried out by the same people Wednesday night.

The crimes took place one after another, starting in Imperial Beach, and then in Valencia Park, North Park, Kearny Mesa, Cardiff and Encinitas, according to the San Diego Police Department and San Diego County Sheriff's Department. At least one person was hospitalized with gunshot injuries and a second person was injured in a crash caused by the suspect, according to SDPD.

Two suspects were taken into custody following a short pursuit in the North County, but investigators will likely spend hours stitching together the alleged crime spree.

Imperial Beach shooting

The first incident was reported at 5:15 p.m. when deputies responded to a shooting in Imperial Beach.

Deputies went to the 1100 block of Louden Lane and found a 36-year-old woman shot in the leg. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff's department. No one else was injured.

Valencia Park shots fired

At 6:11 p.m., San Diego police responded to a call from the sheriff's department about a possible suspect in the Imperial Beach shooting driving on the 5100 block of Coban Street. At the same time, SDPD received a call from a nearby resident about shots fired.

Officers didn't find any victims but located multiple shell casings, according to SDPD Officer Darius Jamsetjee.

North Park shots fired and robbery

At 6:41 p.m., officers responded to a shooting reported at a smoke shop in North Park.

The suspect and another woman entered the shop and stole unknown merchandise. As he was leaving, he fired at least one round from a handgun, police said.

No injuries were reported. The suspect left in a white convertible in an unknown direction, according to police.

Rollover crash in Kearny Mesa

At 6:47 p.m., SDPD and the California Highway Patrol received reports of a white convertible involved in a rollover crash on northbound lanes of Interstate 805 at Clairemont Mesa Boulevard in Kearny Mesa.

The convertible hit two other cars, injuring at least one passenger in one of the cars, according to SDPD.

CHP is handling the crash investigation. It is unclear if anyone has been injured, police said.

Kearny Mesa carjacking

Shortly after the rollover crash, at 6:51 p.m., SDPD was notified about a carjacking near the Kearny Lodge Mobile Home Park.

The suspect and a woman carjacked the owner of a burgundy Nissan Versa, police said.

The suspects left towards the freeway. The SDPD's robbery division is handling the investigation.

Cardiff-by-the-Sea crash and carjacking

At 7:10 p.m., SDPD received a report of a crash and carjacking at Nolbey Street and Villa Cardiff Drive.

Deputies found the stolen burgundy Nissan Versa, which the suspects abandoned after crashing into two cars, according to the sheriff's department.

The suspects then allegedly carjacked the owner of a white 2014 Ford Fusion and drove away, Lt. John Spach with the sheriff's department said.

Suspects arrested in Encinitas

Following a brief foot pursuit just after 8 p.m., the male suspect was arrested outside of a gym at 200 S. El Camino Real in Encinitas, Spach said. He was identified Thursday as Calvin Brown, 26.

The woman, identified as Rolaena Blunt, 18, was also taken into custody.

Officers recovered a handgun and ammunition at the scene, police said.

Both suspects were booked on multiple charges, including attempted murder, carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon. Brown was also booked on gun charges, according to the sheriff's department.
