1 dead, another injured during SR-905 crash in Otay Mesa

The car was driving at a high rate of speed, according to the California Highway Patrol, and crashed into a Caltrans truck that was parked on the side of the road. NBC 7’s Dave Summers reports.

One person is dead and another is injured after a crash on state Route 905 in Otay Mesa on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The collision was reported just after 2:20 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. The first SDFD crew arrived around 15 minutes later.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a car driving at a high rate of speed crashed into a Caltrans truck that was parked on the side of the road. At least one person died and another person was taken to the hospital in critical condition, an SDFD spokesperson confirmed to NBC 7.

Caltrans said that all lanes of westbound SR-905 at Britannia Boulevard are closed following the crash. During this closure, northbound SR-125 will remain open and free of tolls, officials said.

SkyRanger 7 was over the crash site, showing a car flipped over and destroyed in the middle of the freeway. A Border Patrol vehicle, CHP patrol car and ambulance were seen near the crash.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection and CHP are investigating.

An NBC 7 crew is at the scene to gather more details.
