A winter storm that dropped rain and snow and led to flooding and school closures in some areas of San Diego County is moving out of the area on Friday.

Heavy bands of rain Thursday night brought pea-sized hail to some areas, along with a flood advisory for much of the county. One particular band of rain brought a lot of rain in a very short amount of time. Parts of La Jolla, Clairemont, Kearny Mesa, Miramar saw more than an inch and a half of rain in just two hours between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday, NBC 7's Meteorologist Brooke Martell said.

Many San Diegans spent the day cleaning up storm damage
NBC 7's Joey Safchik reports from Sorrento Valley, where the Carroll Canyon Creek was last cleared in 2016.

The heavy rainfall created flooding problems; cars got stuck while driving through inches of water and several rescues were reported.

Up to nine inches of snow fell in the mountains and some parts of the county received more than two inches of rain in the last two days.

A winter weather advisory was in place until 10 a.m. Friday. And a frost advisory was in place until 9 a.m. Friday.

The widespread isolated rain turned into scattered showers by Friday morning, which will continue to taper throughout the morning. We could still have some lingering rain activity into early tonight, Martell said.
