The Scripps Ranch Planning Group voted Thursday to recommend that the city not amend the community plan to allow hundreds of new homes east of Interstate 15.
The project has some residents worried about the impact on schools, traffic and fire risk.
“The question is whether there is enough of a community benefit and a need to change our community plan for what it is to what it could be,” Bob Ilko with the Scripps Ranch Civic Association told NBC 7.
A new development proposed by KB Homes would use space on the Alliant University campus.
The City Planning Commission was slated to address the request for a Community Plan Amendment (CPA) by the developer to begin construction of several hundred single-family homes on the site.
The housing would include low-income housing as well as senior housing in an area currently zoned for educational needs.
This is nerve-wracking for Scripps ranch residents like Christian Anderson.

In 2003 the Cedar Fire destroyed Anderson’s home.
He says the change would bring about safety concerns for the community.
“The access to that site is a single lane road that goes to a middle school,” Anderson said adding that his biggest concern is the access and traffic to that new development.
The Scripps Ranch Planning Group voted to recommend the city of San Diego not amend the community plan.
The next meeting concerning the proposal will be April 11.
KB Homes told NBC 7 they do not comment on land they do not own or control.
