San Diego police were still searching Tuesday for a suspect who fatally shot a woman during a robbery in San Diego's Talmadge neighborhood after a detainee was found not to be involved.
Officers responded to a reported shooting around 8:45 p.m. in the 4400 block of Euclid Avenue and found a 38-year-old woman who had been shot, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.
Police say a man was inside his apartment when another man forced his way into the unit, pointed a gun at him and robbed him of his wallet. The woman tried intervening in the robbery, and the suspect shot and killed her, according to SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell.

Police described the suspect as a man 35-40 years old who was last seen wearing a black sweatsuit with a red stripe down the side. An SDPD helicopter began a search for the suspect.
A possible suspect who roughly matched that description was located in the 4500 block of Aldine Drive, but SDPD later determined the man was not involved in the shooting. The man was still arrested on a probation violation and weapons charges because he was located with a firearm, the agency said.
No suspected shooter has yet been arrested and any relationship between the shooter and the victim is unknown, the department said.
