Alex Bailey, 53, was taken into custody during a traffic stop at 2800 National Avenue around 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the San Diego Police Department.

According to investigators, a group of people were gathered on the sidewalk when an altercation broke out that led to the suspect shooting the victim and another suspect stabbing the victim. Both suspects left in different directions, Campbell said.

When police arrived, they found the victim on the sidewalk with gunshot and stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital but was later pronounced dead, SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell said.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's office has not yet positively identified the victim, who is described as a 53-year-old man.

Police say detectives were working to book Bailey into county jail for murder.

The investigation is ongoing.
