Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing at Gaslamp Quarter

Authorities in San Diego are investigating the deadly stabbing of a 43-year-old man near the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter.

Police said the fatality was reported at about 2:30 a.m. by friends who flagged down officers near Fifth Avenue and J Street. The victim was stabbed in the torso and was rendered aid until medics arrived.

The stabbing victim was taken to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department.

Homicide detectives determined the victim was injured during a fight with two males on the east sidewalk of Fifth Avenue.

One person who matched the description of the assailants was detained in connection to the violence, according to an SDPD Watch Commander.

Police said the stabbing victim has been identified, but authorities will not be releasing his name at this time. They did, however, confirm he was 43.
