A plane crashed Saturday at an airport in Fallbrook, authorities said.

The crash occurred Saturday morning at 2155 Air Park Road at the Fallbrook Community Airpark, a public-use airport, according to the North County Fire Protection District.

No injuries were immediately reported and there were no signs of a fire, officials said. The pilot flying the Piper Saratoga, a single-engine, fixed-wing aircraft, was the only person onboard and the incident resulted in only minor damage to the aircraft.

"It seems like there was a single engine aircraft that had gone off the end of the runway," North County Fire Capt. Richard Berry told NBC 7's Kelvin Henry.

"I would consider it more of a hard landing and didn’t negotiate the end of the runway correctly," Capt. Berry said.

"So one of the pilots was coming through here and was coming in a little bit too fast and this is quite a short runway. I believe about 1,700 feet runway which I'm pretty sure is one of the smallest," Pilot Hunter Mikkelsen told NBC 7.

"As he was coming in there was a point where you want to make sure that you touch down so that you don’t go over the edge and if you do hit that point, you want to make sure you speed up and go around," Mikkelsen said.

Mikkelsen added that the incident occurred during an event that was held for Young Eagles in a program for people interested in becoming pilots.
