The San Diego Padres may have a new suitor.
The team announced last week that John Moores is working with advisors to identify potential buyers.
On Tuesday, a reporter with the Los Angeles Times spoke to former Dodgers owner Peter O'Malley about the possibility of his family buying the Padres.
"We are thinking about it," O'Malley told the Times.
Walter O'Malley, Peter's father, partially bought the Dodgers in 1950. Peter became president of the team in 1970. Five years later, Walter gained full ownership of the team until his death in 1975, when Peter and his sister Terry Seidler took over ownership.
In 1998, Peter O'Malley sold the team to News Corp. He tried to buy the team again last year, but was unsuccessful, the Times reported.
A deal involving a new ownership group for the Padres led by Jeff Moorad fell apart in January when the owners of Major League Baseball put off approving the sale.

Moores said in a previous article "Three years ago, I made the difficult decision to sell the club, and I didn’t expect to have to make that same decision again.”

Steve Greenberg of Allen & Company and John Moag of Moag & Company have been retained to help in the process of finding potential buyers for the team, according to an official release.
Jeff Moorad stepped down as Padres CEO on March 22. He was a prominent sports agent before becoming a minority owner first with the Arizona Diamondbacks, then with the Padres.
His group owned 49 percent of the Padres and was set to buy the remainder from Moores.
In an interview with MLB.com at Petco Park on Opening Day, Moores said the deal to sell to Moorad has been terminated.
