A child died on his way to school after he was pinned underneath a truck near a busy Oceanside intersection Thursday.
The collision happened just after 7 a.m. near Oceanside Boulevard and South Coast Highway. The 12-year-old child, identified by family friends as Logan Lipton, was riding a bicycle when he became pinned underneath a white Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck.
The truck driver told Oceanside Police he was pulling out of a driveway of the Oceanside RV Park and was going to turn left to travel south.
He heard a thump on the side of his vehicle, so he made a sharp left turn into another driveway to pull over.
That’s when he found the boy lodged under the truck, police said.
Oceanside firefighters arrived and immediately began treating Logan. A medical helicopter picked him up near State Route 78 and Jefferson and flew him to Tri-City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Family friend Bruce Benedict said Logan was riding his bike to Lincoln Middle School just a mile and a half from the crash site.

An avid surfer, huge Chargers fan, Logan was just an overall well-known kid in the neighborhood, Benedict said.
"He surfed, he was loved by everybody," he added. "We're rattled to the core."
Logan's family used to be neighbors with Junior Seau, who gave Logan a football just two weeks before the Chargers player's death. Every Sunday, Logan would hold the football as he watched the Chargers game with family and friends, Benedict told NBC 7.
Thursday afternoon, passersby started a roadside memorial for Logan with flowers and a stuffed animal.
A spokesperson for the school district told NBC 7 they provided counselors and support staff at Lincoln Middle School for grieving students.
