California Gov. Gavin Newsom has ordered 40 million California residents to stay at home as the nation's most populous state takes increasingly urgent steps to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) has taken measures to protect the community against the spread of the novel coronavirus by issuing a Public Health Order. The order was modified several times in March and April 2020 to restrict gatherings, shutter the dining rooms of restaurants, and close down public areas.
Businesses that provide essential services will remain open.

Beach, Park, and Trail Reopenings
Local
After a lengthy lockdown on parks and beaches in San Diego County due to the coronavirus pandemic, some recreation areas have reopened, but with limitations. Click here to view that list.
City Closures
The City of Chula Vista will temporarily suspend full operations to focus efforts on "providing critical public safety services," the city said. All libraries, recreation centers, and city parks will be closed until further notice, including youth and adult sports.
The city of San Diego has announced that all 36 public libraries and recreation centers and pools will close. For more details, click here.
The city of National City closed the following facilities: Camacho Recreation Center, Casa de Salud, El Toyon Recreation Center, Kimball Senior Center, National City Public Library, and the Pool. The Senior Nutrition Center will begin delivering home meals and allowing for to-go meals, but will not be serving seated meals to the public onsite.
The city of Encinitas temporarily closed its active recreation areas in city parks including all fields & courts (tennis, pickleball, basketball, and volleyball courts), Playgrounds, Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park, and Skate Parks/Features.
Venues and Amusements
Most museums, centers, and performances in Balboa Park have closed as of March 16 due to the county's mandate over COVID-19 concerns. To see what locations were affected, click here.
The YMCA of San Diego County announced all YMCA locations will be closed. During the temporary closure, the YMCA said there will be a small team available to answer any questions.
Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa will be temporarily closed until further notice. For more details, click here.
Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography announced that it will be temporarily closed to the public until further notice. For more details, click here.
SeaWorld San Diego announced they are closing all theme parks until further notice. For more details, click here.

Jamul Casino will remain closed until further notice. For more details, click here.

Viejas Casino and Resort announced on May 8 that they will reopen on May 18th. For more details, click here.
Harrah's Resort Southern California in Valley Center will remain closed until further notice. For more details, click here.

Events
For the first time in 50 years, San Diego Comic-Con International has been canceled due to the impact and restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic.
San Diego Pride announced that “all in-person gatherings scheduled for July 2020 will not take place as planned,” due to “the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The San Diego County Fair will not happen in 2020, it has been postponed until 2021.
The San Diego Symphony has canceled and postponed several performances until May. To view a full list, click here.
The Del Mar National Horse Show has been canceled as a result of the pandemic. It was scheduled to run April 14 to May 3 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

The California Center for the Arts in Escondido is canceling events that anticipate more than 250 people like the Best of Broadway, amART Festival, Joan Osborne and The Weepies' concert and more. See the full list here.
The Old Globe has announced that it will suspend public performances at least through the end of March. For more information, click here.
The Cygnet Theatre has temporarily rescheduled all performances of La Cage aux Folles. All performances will resume on April 16. For more details, click here.
