A 19-year-old woman accused of hitting a pedestrian with her car and then driving away plead guilty to the charges on Monday.
Nikolette Gallo was 18 when she struck 23-year-old Sho Funai before sunrise on March 11. Police later found Funai's body on the side of the road. Gallo turned herself in to police the following day.
California Highway Patrol said Funai had been walking eastbound on the shoulder of Interstate 8 when he was hit by Gallo's Toyota.
Gallo thought she had hit some debris or a sofa on the side of the road, not a person.
Her attorney told NBCSanDiego in March that it wasn't clear if Gallo drank alcohol the night of the incident, but there are no allegations of drug or alcohol use.
Gallo could be put on probation or spend up to four years in prison if convicted, but was freed on bond after her hearing on March 20.
Sentencing will be held on July 26 at the San Diego County Courthouse.
