National City Police Investigate Possible Rape

The suspect met the alleged victim on Plenty of Fish, according to officers

Police officers arrested 24-year-old Damone Carter who is accused of raping a woman he met on dating website Plenty of Fish.

UPDATED JUNE 19, 2014: The San Diego County District Attorney's office rejected this case, and the suspect was never charged. The National City Police Department are not actively investigating the case.

A 24-year-old man is in custody after allegedly raping a woman he met on an internet dating site, according to officials.

The incident happened Friday, June 21 at an apartment in the 2400-block of East 8th Street in National City.

Officials said this was the first time 24-year-old suspect Damone Carter and the victim met in person after meeting on the website Plenty of Fish.

Last Friday around 1 p.m., officers received a call from a woman in her mid-twenties who said she'd just been raped. Investigators said she met Carter on the free dating website and had started talking to him the week prior and they had agreed to meet.

The woman said she then went to his apartment, which is when Carter allegedly forced himself on her and raped her.

Police said the victim managed to escape around the corner and dialed 911. When law enforcement arrived, she guided them to his apartment and identified Carter as her attacker.

The suspect will be arraigned Tuesday afternoon. He faces three counts of rape, sex with a foreign object and false imprisonment. Carter's bail is currently set to $100,000.

Earlier this year, a man was accused of raping a woman he met on dating website Christian Mingle. Sean Banks, a former U.S. Navy lieutenant,  accused of four charges including rape and rape by intoxication. Prosecutors claimed Banks also used the Plenty of Fish website and created aliases to meet different women.
