Investigators in Oceanside are looking into what caused multiple fires across the city.

Multiple fires broke out in Oceanside on Sunday afternoon, prompting several nearby businesses to evacuate, officials said.

By 6:00 p.m. Sunday, fire crews from several San Diego County fire agencies had halted the forward spread of several fires in near proximity to each other near the 800 block of College Boulevard, according to Jennifer Atenza, a spokesperson for the Oceanside Police Department.

The combined fires burned 21 acres of Talone Lake and roughly 60% surrounded as of midnight early Monday, according to Oceanside Fire Department Battalion Chief Jon Regne.

Investigators believed the fires were intentionally started and were searching the area for a potential suspect. One person was detained for questioning in connection with the fires. No arrests have been made, however.

One home in the 700 block of Mosaic Road, east of the fire, sustained minor exterior damage, Regner said. No injuries were reported.

Roads were closed between Frazee Road, College Boulevard and Mission Avenue, but by 9:30 p.m. Sunday had been reopened. Businesses in the area were also evacuated.

The first fire broke out around 2:30 p.m.
