Molester Sentenced to 45 Years

A man who paid a babysitter to bring him a young boy to molest has been sentenced to 45 years to life in prison.

Jared Yaffe, 31, pleaded guilty in May to three counts of committing a lewd act on a child. Yaffe was initially charged with 20 counts, including an allegation he took the 3-year-old boy to a hotel room and molested him while videotaping the attack.

Yaffe paid an East County babysitter named Aaron Zendejas, to provide children for him.  Yaffe would molest the children and take pictures and videos of them before selling the images on the Internet.

After months on the run, Yaffe was arrested at a hotel in Rio De Janeiro.

U.S. Marshals tracked Yaffe from North Carolina to Frankfurt, Germany.

"He went to Romania for a short time and then to Brazil in late March," Agent Venables said.  It was in Brazil where state agents and local police arrested Yaffe at a hotel.

Agents say Brazilian police accused Yaffe of preying on children in their country as well.

The grandfather of Yaffe's victim spoke during Thursday's sentencing. "This man behind that corner right there says that my grandson had the mentality of a goldfish, well, you know what? That little 3-year-old goldfish remembered everything you did to him, you son of a ----- .... everything," the grandfather said.

The babysitter, Aaron Zendejas, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison in a separate trial.
