When fire ripped through a two-story home in Mira Mesa overnight, a neighbor said the building went up in flames "like a torch."
Two dogs died and nearly a half million dollars in damage was done after the house fire broke out just after 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Five adults and one child made it out safely as the fire ripped through the home on Flanders Drive.
"I heard two loud big booms," Neighbor Hong Ha said. "And then the fire just went up like a torch."
Crews arrived within five minutes after getting the initial call at 2:08 a.m., according to San Diego Fire-Rescue officials.
Upon arrival, firefighters witnessed fire and heavy smoke on the first floor and roof.
Lee Swanson with SDFD said wind was a factor in the fire's spread to the second floor.

The fire was knocked down at 2:36 a.m., and no nearby homes were damaged.
But as for this home, officials estimate about $300,000 in damage was done to the house and $150,00 to the contents.
The San Diego Chapter of the American Red Cross is offering assistance, and fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
