A 34-year-old man stationed at the Marine Corps base in Camp Pendleton was killed after his motorcycle crashed into a stalled car on a San Diego freeway early Saturday morning.
The accident happened at 3:45 a.m. on northbound Interstate 805 at Balboa Avenue.
The man was on active duty in the Marine Corps, the Medical Examiner's Office said.
He was driving north on the Balboa Avenue off ramp in San Diego when he was rear ended, the Medical Examiner said. The collision forced him into the northbound lanes of Interstate 805. Witnesses at the scene said the driver of the motorcycle was driving fast when he collided with the vehicle.
When paramedics arrived, the man was pronounced dead on the scene due to fatal trauma, the Medical Examiner's Office said.
A Sig alert was issued and several lanes were closed, but all lanes were reopened by 7:30 a.m.
