San Diego may be America’s Finest City, but La Jolla is one of America’s “happiest seaside towns,” according to a recent ranking released by “Coastal Living” magazine.
The magazine’s June 2013 issue features a list of the top 10 places to live by the sea, as ranked by consumers. La Jolla was ranked No. 9 on the list by voters.
The list points out that La Jolla is home to “both brains and beauty” with its breathtaking rocky shoreline, Torrey Pines Golf course and the fact that it’s home to the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Other happy seaside towns that made the cut include:
- Beaufort, S.C.
- Harwich Port, Mass.
- Sanibel Island, Fla.
- Sag Harbor, N.Y.
- Newport, R.I.
- Rowayton, Conn.
- Kennebunkport, Maine
- Pā’ia Town, Maui, Hawaii
- Pescadero, Calif.
According to “Coastal Living,” the finalists were chosen based on criteria such as the percentage of sunny days, healthiness of surrounding beaches, commute times, walkability, standard of living, geographic diversity and financial well-being of locals.
