Fleet Sunk by Late Express Rally; Manziel Next?

Let the Manziel to San Diego rumors start swirling

As crazy as this sounds ... for the next few days the San Diego Fleet are going to be mentioned in the same sentence as Johnny Manziel.

On Saturday they let a 20-6 lead get away in a 26-23 loss to previously winless Memphis Express. In the process they lost one starting quarterback (Philip Nelson suffered a shoulder injury), didn't even bother trying the starting quarterback from Week 1 because he was so bad (Mike Bercovici), and realized their third quarterback is a turnover waiting to happen (Alex Ross, who lost two fumbles and threw a pick to hand the game to the Express).

General Manager Dave Boller said after the game they'd have to add another QB and would look to see who's available ... which leads us to Johnny Manziel.

After getting banned from the Canadian Football League the former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL Draft bust is going to work out for Alliance of American Football teams. Due to regional rules the San Antonio Commanders have right of first refusal on Manziel. If they pass on him the rest of the league can take a shot.

We know Manziel loves San Diego. He trained for the NFL Combine here and helped the USD Toreros with one of their recent NFL Pro Days. Plus he's a former Padres draft pick (thanks Mike Dee!). So it is entirely possible Mike Martz takes a shot on him.

Amazing as this sounds, Manziel can't possibly be any worse than what the Fleet have gotten from the quarterback position so far.
