Crews responded to a structure fire near the Escondido Public Library.

Some Escondido residents and 911 dispatchers were unable to complete phone calls Thursday following an early morning fire at an AT&T building.

Crews received a report of the blaze at about 3:45 a.m. on the 140 block of Broadway, according to the Escondido Police Department. There, smoke was seen coming from the second and third floors of the building.

Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire in a battery backup room. Due to the blaze, AT&T said "some call capabilities" could be affected.

Escondido Fire Department spokesperson Jeff Murdock confirmed that some of the 911 dispatch calls were impacted due to the fire. The issue was ongoing as of Thursday afternoon.

All calls were properly answered and then routed to Carlsbad dispatchers, Murdock said.

"We are working to assess the damage and make repairs as quickly and safely as possible," an AT&T spokesperson said in a statement. "We apologize for any convenience."

Murdock expected their dispatch services to be back to normal Thursday evening.

It is unclear if any injuries occurred in the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
