A homicide investigation is underway in Escondido after a person was stabbed to death on Monday night, police said.

Police were called to the 2700 block of Wanek Road in Escondido at around 8 p.m. regarding a stabbing.

Once officers arrived at the scene, they found a juvenile suffering from a stab wound, Escondido Police said. Escondido Fire Paramedics took the boy to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Officers at the scene learned that a group of males were seen fighting in the middle of the street and at some point the victim fled the fight and ran down the street before collapsing on the 2800 block of Wanek Road, EPD said.

All other people involved in the fight fled the scene before police arrived and there is no one in custody at this time.

It is still unclear what led up to the fight, police said.
