Escondido Man Killed After Truck Rolled Over Him in Crash

An Escondido man was killed in a two-car crash Sunday where he was partially ejected from his truck, which rolled over him, police said.

The crash happened around 9:35 a.m. at the intersection of Valley Parkway and Quince Street, Escondido police Lt. Michael Kearney said.

The man, 54, was driving a Toyota Tacoma on southbound Quince Street and crashed into a 41-year-old woman driving a Mercedes-Benz westbound on Valley Parkway, he said.

The force of the crash caused the Tacoma to roll over several times and the man was partially ejected because he was not wearing a seatbelt, the lieutenant said. He was transported to Palomar Medical Center where he died.

His female passenger, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries but she had to be extricated from the truck by Escondido Fire Paramedics, Kearney said. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Mercedes, which came to rest after crashing into a retaining wall, was not injured, he said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation but alcohol was not suspected to be a factor.

Anyone with any information on the crash was urged to contact Escondido police Officer Russ Gay at (760) 743-8477.
