The driver who died in a car crash in El Cajon Saturday morning was a student who attended Grossmont High School, the district announced.
“GUHSD has learned that Saturday morning’s tragic fatal vehicle collision in El Cajon involved students from our district family," the Grossmont Union High School District said in a statement.
The district confirmed that the driver of the vehicle who died at the scene was a 12th-grade student who attended Grossmont High School. The district also said, two of the three passengers are 11th-grade students who also attended Grossmont. The third passenger is not a student of a GUHSD school.
"Our district is working closely with the El Cajon Police Department as their investigation of the incident continues," the district said.

Police responded to reports of a solo vehicle crashing into a traffic light pole at around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Fletcher Parkway and Navajo Road. Once police arrived, they found four people trapped in a black 2018 Honda Civic.
According to El Cajon Police, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead and the three passengers in the vehicle were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries.
After a preliminary investigation, police said it appears the Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Navajo Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and collided with the light pole on Fletcher Parkway.
"It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in this collision and no other vehicles were involved," he said.
Grossmont High School student Evar Ruban and other friends came to the scene to pay their respects.

"He was a really nice person. He always had that smile on his face," Ruban said. "To be honest, I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe it. He didn’t deserve this."
"He was a nice guy. He was a good person. He was just that friend that would always be around," Ruban told NBC 7.
Another Grossmont High student, Ryan Kilbrad, said he's devastated.
"It’s so heartbreaking because those are some of my closest friends. It’s still hard to take in," Kilbrad said.
The mother of a passenger who was seriously injured in the crash spoke to NBC 7 saying she is heartbroken over the incident.
"My heart is broken, but my faith is strong. I just cry out my heart to God and I choose to believe that he is good and that he will save him," said Abigail Reyes, mother of Jiovanni Solorio Roman.
Reyes told NBC 7 that her son is in a coma, clinging to life.
Reyes told NBC 7 the other Grossmont junior involved in the crash is also in a coma.
No other names have been released by police or the district.
El Cajon police is urging anyone with any information regarding the crash to call at 619-579-3311.
