Driver Who Returned to Scene of Pedestrian Crash Arrested

SDSO said the driver and vehicle involved did not stay at the scene but later confirmed a driver returned about an hour later

The alleged driver of a hit-and-run returned to the scene in Santee and was arrested by police. NBC 7’s Greg Bledsoe has more on the argument had right before the victim was hit.

A driver who struck a man in Santee but later returned to the scene was arrested Tuesday morning, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

NBC 7 captured footage of the alleged driver being placed in handcuffs and into the back of a patrol car just before 7 a.m., hours after the 32-year-old pedestrian was struck along N. Magnolia Avenue near the Santee Historical Society.

The pedestrian was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital with head injuries, SDSO said. He remained in serious condition.

The driver and vehicle involved at first did not stay at the scene but SDSO confirmed a driver returned after first responders arrived. He was arrested on felony hit and run charges, SDSO said. The department was still investigating if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

SDSO said the 32-year-old man was walking in the roadway at the time. He had just been in an arguement with his brother who was urging him to get back in the vehicle when the car slammed into him.

A portion of N. Magnolia Avenue was blocked as the sheriff's department investigated the crash. Traffic was being diverted around the area.
