A hydraulic drilling rig collapsed over a construction worker in Spring Valley, leaving the man hospitalized with head and neck pain Monday, according to the San Miguel Fire Protection District.
Crews were working to install solar panel covers in the back parking lot of Steele Canyon High School when the machine toppled and struck the operator, San Miguel Fire spokesperson Steve Moran said.
Diesel fuel also spewed out when the rig fell on Campo Road, just north of State Route 94.
The worker was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital, Moran said.
He was treated and later released from the hospital, according to Cal/OSHA.
Curtis Drilling Company is in charge of the drilling and is a sub-contractor of Baker Electric, Cal/OSHA said.
No Steele Canyon HS students or staff were hurt in the incident.
