What do you get when you put San Diego's favorite instrumental surf-jazz duo, the Mattson 2, and Chaz Bundick (aka Toro y Moi) in the same room? Well, a whole lotta star power, apparently. Last week, The FADER premiered their new music video, "Star Stuff," calling it a "collective dream" for a "vaporous psych-pop track."
The video juxtaposes a surrealist trip through a bowling alley with the performing trio enveloped by a peach-pink haze. Tiled floor becomes the cosmos, bowling pins are caressed gently by the cold fingers of bowling alley machinery and a ball watches like the eye of God. Don't believe me? See for yourself. But first, mark your calendar for March 31, when their collaborative album, also called "Star Stuff," comes out on Company Records.
