Chipotle Opens First Military Base Restaurant in San Diego

Denver-based Chipotle Mexican Grill has opened its first military base restaurant at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego. Company officials said the restaurant will serve an on-base population of more than 8,000 active military members and their families.

Officials said Chipotle has signed on to the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a national coalition of 150 companies committed to hiring military veterans.

The new location serves burritos, tacos and other Mexican-style items, using organic and locally sourced meats, dairy products and produce where possible. Sources supplying Chipotle’s local restaurants include singer Jason Mraz’s avocado farm in Fallbrook and bell pepper supplier Peter Rabbit Farms in Coachella, officials said.

The fast-casual Chipotle operates more than 1,700 restaurants, including 31 in San Diego County, according to its website.
