NBC Universal, Inc.

Crews were working on a street in Chollas View when an SUV plowed right into them, NBC 7’s Audra Stafford reports.

A woman was arrested on DUI charges Tuesday morning after she plowed into Caltrans subcontractors working on an off-ramp in Chollas View.

The workers were laying concrete along the off-ramp from northbound Interstate 805 to Market Street when an SUV veered off the roadway and struck the workers around 3:20 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

The vehicle continued on and crashed into a trailer parked on the shoulder. Video from the scene showed a gold Ford SUV crashed into the back of a trailer with heavy front-end damage.

CHP said the driver was a 29-year-old Chula Vista woman, who was detained by San Diego police officers who witnessed the crash. She was placed under arrest on allegations she was driving under the influence after a drunk driving test.

Video at the scene showed three construction workers on the ground being treated by paramedics. At least on of them had a leg injury and was being splinted.

The workers were transported to a nearby hospital. Their injuries were described as moderate but their current condition was not known.

Caltrans was subcontracting the workers for an ADA-compliant project along the roadway, the agency said.
