Pedestrian Pinned Under Car in East Village

A man hit by a car and pinned under it had to be rescued, but escaped with minor injuries. NBC 7’s Ashley Matthews has more.

A pedestrian struck by a vehicle and pinned underneath it in East Village suffered apparently minor injuries, the San Diego Police Department confirmed Tuesday.

Police say witnesses at the scene reported seeing the driver of the car suffered an apparent medical episode before losing control and hitting the pedestrian on  Imperial Avenue near the St. Vincent DePaul Village.

The driver was pulled from the car by emergency personnel and the victim was later freed from the wreckage.

An SDPD officer at the scene said that the victim's injuries appeared to be minor but they will undergo further tests for internal injuries per protocol in an incident where someone is pinned under a car.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected factors in the crash, SDPD said.

No other information was available.
