A reported suspicious device blocking one of the main routes to Interstate 5 during rush hour was deemed safe, San Diego Police said.
All traffic on 1st Avenue and C Street in downtown San Diego was stopped as police investigated a suspicious package.
Police first responded at 3 p.m. to the item, and no injuries were been reported, San Diego Police said.
Traffic north of Broadway on 1st Avenue was blocked off, and C Street pedestrian traffic heading eastbound was blocked off. The trolley in the area was also impacted.
The suspicious package in question was on the street, Officer Frank Cali said, possibly on a sidewalk in the area of 1st Avenue and C Street.
Officers sent in a robot to check out the device, and it was found to be harmless.
The Bomb Squad and the San Diego Fire-Rescue's Metro arson Strike Team (MAST) responded to the incident.
