A 35-foot-long sailboat docked at Shelter Island caught on fire Sunday afternoon, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Firefighters responded to the scene at around 2:50 p.m. where Thick, black smoke could be seen coming from the hull of the boat and quickly put out the blaze 15 minutes later, SDFD Battalion Chief Rick Ballard said.
A nearby U.S. Coast Guard boat was able to help crews with the fire.
Ballard said engine crews experienced slight difficulties in accessing the fire because they had to lay the hose down on the dock.
At this time, it’s not clear what caused the fire or the extent and cost of the damages.
The San Diego Police Department and San Diego Harbor Police also assisted in putting out the fire.
No injuries were reported.
