SDPD Investigates Suspicious Death of Man Found on Bay Terraces Sidewalk

A man found Friday injured on a sidewalk in Bay Terraces has died and San Diego police have launched a homicide investigation into his death.

The victim, who has not been identified by police, was found face down on a sidewalk in a residential area just northwest of the Briarwood exit from State Route 54.

San Diego police and emergency personnel were called to the corner of Spring Oak Way and Alsacia Street just after midnight.

A man walked out of his home to get into his car and spotted the victim, police said. He told police he heard several gunshots around 11 - 11:30 p.m.

The man was suffering from apparent trauma to his upper body, SDPD Lt. Anthony Dupree said.

Officers found a skateboard nearby but they aren’t sure if it belonged to the victim.

“Detectives are going door-to-door trying to see if anyone heard anything, hopefully, see if anyone has possibly video of cars going in and out,” Dupree said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

San Diego Councilmember Monica Montgomery, representing District Four, issued the following statement regarding recent violence in the area.

"Last month, we saw an increase in gun violence in our community. This week alone, two young men were shot and killed in District Four. My office has been in constant contact with the San Diego Police Department and investigations are ongoing. I am taking a strong stand against gun violence in our community, and my desire is for our community to remain safe -every street and every neighborhood. We will continue to work with the Mayor's Office, the San Diego Police Department and the community to make sure that we truly have a city that is safe for all."
