A father and his two girls had to be rescued after their pick-up truck drove off Sunset Cliffs in an attempted suicide, San Diego Police said.
At around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, a woman called the San Diego Sheriff’s Department and said her husband had left with their two kids in his vehicle and had threatened to drive off a cliff, police said.
Twenty minutes later, a San Diego Police officer located a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect's vehicle near the 4400 block of Hill Street, SDPD said.
There was no pursuit, but shortly after, the father drove off the cliffs at the end of the block, SDPD said.
Both children and their father were rescued and transported to a local hospital, SDPD said.
The father suffered non-life-threatening injuries. One of the girls, a 2-year-old, suffered minor injuries and is ok. The other child, also 2-years-old, is in critical condition but is expected to survive, SDPD Officer Tony Martinez said.
The mother responded to the hospital for her daughters.

There is no information on whether the father will face any charges. If he is charged, it would likely not happen until after he is released from the hospital, police said.
Hill Street remained closed for the duration of the investigation.
